Overview

As in-house Art Director at Japan Crate, I created the monthly crates from initial concept through to print-ready files, along with the supporting booklets, banners and merchandise. I led the art direction for each theme, defining the overall look and finding ways to introduce Japanese culture to a Western audience that felt authentic, fun and easy to approach.

My aim was to make every crate welcoming from the first glance at the box to the last page of the booklet, even for people completely new to the culture. I paired my knowledge of Japan with thorough research so each theme was accurate and thoughtfully represented.

I illustrated in Procreate and Illustrator, working mainly in vectors so assets could be reused across formats. An adaptive illustration style let me shift between themes while keeping every design fresh, polished and cohesive.
