Iro means ‘colour’ in Japanese, meaning colour rug. I wanted to encorporate information and pattern together to make something both aesthetically pleasing and practical. I want to make learning an unconscious action and enforce it into daily routines to make it habitual. The rug teaches you the colours by each colour being written in Hiragana. I chose Hiragana as it is the first alphabet you are usually taught. I felt that Japanese font was better over English as it added another element of study as well as being more pattern like for western audiences.
